(HD Video) The Day Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi Met For The First Time

Ronaldo, who expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, had been touted as a potential signing for Flamengo in recent days, but Landim was surprised when asked if the recently-crowned Copa Libertadores champions would be signing the 37-year-old.

The Portuguese star has scored just three goals in 15 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s side this term, with the former Real Madrid man being primarily utilised as an impact substitute for United.

Speaking about Ronaldo on the ‘Papo Reto’ podcast, as reported by Record, Landim said: “I don’t know where it came from but they have a lot of creativity. First of all, I ask: For whose place? It’s to be on the bench.”

Landim went on to explain why signing the United striker would be impossible for Flamengo due to the cost, before insisting that a move would not be happening.

“From what I’ve read on the internet, I don’t know if it’s true or not, he would have been offered $242million [£215m] for a two-year contract. Divided by 24 months, that’s about $10m a month,” he added.

“Talk about a value far above the entire salary sheet of Flamengo for Cristiano Ronaldo. To be Pedro or Gabigol’s [Gabriel Barbosa] substitute? I can’t… nobody here is going to go crazy things.

“The amateur time of managing, of thinking that in the future we’ll pay the bills, that no longer exists. There is no possibility of taking a step that is not firm.”

Flamengo overcame Athletic Paranaense 1-0 in the Copa Libertadores final last weekend, with Gabriel Barbosa scoring the winner. The Brazilian striker has bagged 29 times in all competitions this season, with Pedro also scoring 29 goals.

Landim was also asked about the possibility of signing the Brazilian star Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain, but was also quick to dismiss those rumours.
